Trump and Putin Discuss Possible Economic Deals

On Monday, February 24th, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he is engaged in “serious discussions” with Russian President Vladimir Putin about ending the war in Ukraine and exploring economic deals. These deals will particularly focus on Russia’s rare earth mineral deposits, which are vital for various industries, including technology and energy industries. Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that “talks are proceeding very well,” and underscored that his goal is to facilitate economic development between the U.S. and Russia. He emphasized the potential for mutually beneficial agreements that, as he claims, will enhance global trade and will strengthen both nations’ economies.

In response to Trump’s initiative, President Putin states that Russia is open to working with U.S. companies to mine rare earth minerals in both Russia, and occupied areas in Ukraine. President Putin emphasized that Russia possesses significant reserves of critical resources, effectively establishing the country as one of the top global leaders in rare metal reserves.
